The development history of BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) can be traced back nearly 30 years ago. In 1991, Schüco presented the "photovoltaic curtain wall" at the large building industry exhibition in Munich, Germany, pioneering the combination of solar photovoltaic arrays and building structures. Since then, countries such as Germany, Japan, the United States, and Spain have successively carried out BIPV practices.
The exploration of domestic BIPV projects began in the Shenzhen Garden Expo Park and the Beijing Tianpu Industrial Park in 2004. At that time, the industry was still in its infancy. The state has successively introduced policies to support it. In 2006, the "Renewable Energy Law of the People's Republic of China" was promulgated. In 2009, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Energy Administration jointly issued the "Notice on Implementing the Golden Sun Demonstration Project", injecting impetus into the development of the industry.
As a traditional curtain wall building materials enterprise, SYP has always adhered to the concept of "Always have a new pursuit", actively paid attention to the development of the photovoltaic field, and deeply explored the integration path with the new energy industry. In the early stage, SYP cooperated with universities to improve the photovoltaic conversion efficiency and also carried out exchanges with many photovoltaic enterprises. It had negotiated cooperation with the industry leader Hanergy on many occasions and jointly created the first BIPV curtain wall project in 2018. Through this project, SYP formed a complete process plan and mass-produced laying, splicing, and packaging technologies, and continued to optimize and upgrade in subsequent projects such as Chenxin Pharmaceutical and the Academy of Arts and Crafts.
The year 2022 witnessed the vigorous development of China's photovoltaic industry. The state successively issued three important documents to encourage and promote the development of photovoltaics and the application of BIPV. SYP seized the policy opportunities and efficiently promoted the construction of more than ten projects in 2022, covering Zuojiazhuang Electric Heating, the Maldives, Beijing Yijie, and the Second Hospital of Xiongxian. Among them, the World Laureates Association Forum Center became the world's first project to obtain both LEED Platinum and WELL Platinum certifications, and the Grand Canal Museum met the green three-star building standard. These projects broke through the functional limitations of traditional building materials and reconstructed the building energy supply and demand system. Through high-end curtain wall glass, building energy consumption was reduced and carbon emissions were achieved. The photovoltaic power generation glass (BIPV) further deeply integrated the changes in the material end and the energy end, setting a good demonstration effect for SYP's BIPV business.
Relying on its profound heritage in the curtain wall industry and the extensive influence of BIPV demonstration projects, SYP has attracted many outstanding enterprises to seek cooperation and has reached in-depth cooperation with CNBM , Longyan, and Riko. Up to now, SYP has cumulatively completed more than 100 BIPV projects.
In terms of technology and production capacity construction, SYP is equipped with photovoltaic dedicated ultra-clean laminating rooms, autoclaves, laser decoating machine, independently developed photovoltaic inspection lines, and has applied for multiple national patents. The company has established a complete set of BIPV production lines, with a monthly production capacity of 20,000 square meters and an annual production capacity of 240,000 square meters, which can fully meet the production needs of high-efficiency customized BIPV products.
In project practice, SYP has demonstrated strong technical strength and can properly solve various complex design problems and meet the needs of mainstream scenarios. For example, Anhui Xinqiao Airport, as the first Class 4 airport in the province, its 9,000-square-meter fully customized photovoltaic project has demonstrated SYP's top-notch craftsmanship throughout the whole process. Meanwhile, we can develop various combinations of light transmission + colored glaze and various low-e coatings. Diversified products meet various photovoltaic applications. The green photovoltaic project in Luogang Park perfectly integrates the circular roof with the surrounding environment. The Hainan Boao Forum project showcases China's green power application achievements to the world. The gray colored glaze BIPV of the Shanghai West Bund Exhibition Center demonstrates the unique aesthetics and high-end texture of the photovoltaic roof.
In 2025, the General Office of the National Development and Reform Commission, the General Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and many other departments issued documents again to continuously promote the green transformation of the construction industry and reduce carbon emissions from buildings. Against the backdrop of the rapid global development of BIPV, SYP, based on a global vision and long-term development, adheres to the research and development of green and low-carbon technologies and adheres to the concept of benefiting mankind. It will surely create more glories in the BIPV field in the future.
